A visit in aunt Trudel’s jumble
Games for the entire family
25 October 2011
From a fast card memory game to a communication game – players can look forward to many creative new products from Zoch this fall too. At Spiel 2011 in Essen, from 20 to 23 October, at stand 39 hall 10, the Munich games publisher will present its children’s game “Da ist der Wurm drin“, that was chosen as “Kinderspiel des Jahres“ this summer, and for the first time will present its current new fall products for all age groups:
“Tante Trudels Trödel“ – a game for the whole family with a play shop, “Kalimambo“, ensuring annoyance when you step in elephant dung or get a kick in the pants, the communication game “Schnapp’s“ for up to eight players, “Aquilea“ – a competition in ancient times, and two card games: “Fuchs & Fertig“ and “Wollmilchsau“. In addition the popular “Hamsterrolle“, a mobile wooden exercise wheel, has been reissued.

The “Children’s Game of the Year 2011“
The Munich games publisher Zoch enjoyed considerable recognition this summer for its children’s game “Da ist der Wurm drin“. The rooting contest for children of four years and up was awarded the internationally renowned title “Children’s Game of the Year 2011“. Simple rules and an exceptional, wonder-fully designed game plan convinced the jury. The children’s game is the debut game of author Carmen Kleinert. Heidemarie Rüttinger provided the graphics. The amusing game idea and child-oriented implementation of the elaborately designed competitive rooting of worms are most impressive.

“Tante Trudels Trödel“
A beam scale decides who wins
In “Tante Trudels Trödel“ (Aunt Trudel’s jumble) it’s not the money in your wal-let that determines your purchases, but a scale. In this family game the players buy: coat hangers, vases, saucepans, plates and a whole lot more to take home. They put the jumble in their shopping baskets and go to the cash desk. A dice decides which shelf each player is allowed to shop from. The scales decide how much they can take home with them. When the first player leaves aunt Trudel’s store purchases are weighed – players are also allowed to test-weigh purchases in between. The jumble purchased at the end may not ex-ceed aunt Trudel’s basket of goods – the jumble of the day.
The lovingly designed game by Steffen Bogen is suitable for children of seven and up and presents a challenge for the whole family. Kids learn to estimate size and weight correctly. There is also a variation for younger children for first experience with weights. The game is richly equipped with beautiful jumble made of wood – 25 pieces in total. A sturdily built beam scale decides whether the purchase was indeed successful or was possibly too heavy after all.

Schnapp’s – a communication game for larger groups
A game with handicaps
“Schnapp’s (Snap it up) is suitable for larger groups of players or even par-ties. This is a communication and perception game for three to eight players nine and up. 96 picture cards with very slight variations in motif are waiting to be discovered and snapped up.
Under time pressure – the hourglass is running unstoppably - the person ex-plaining attempts to describe the picture motif that their fellow players should find. The more exact the description the more likely fellow players are to find the card. From round two 18 different handicaps enter the game: that every second word must be “snap it up“, for example. Teams can also play against the clock and in a cooperative variant the players join forces.

“Kalimambo“ – a running and fretting game
This new fun game from Zoch is amusing and humorous: in “Kalimambo“ there’s trouble in store for you. If you step on elephant dung or Mambo, the rhino kicks you in the pants. Round for round the players try to avoid anooyances like these. To do so they have to play the right card at the right time. Each round brings new excitement and surprises with plenty of opportun-ities for laughter and malicious glee to stifle annoyance.
The game developed by Antonio Scrittore for up to seven players eight and up offers plenty of opportunity for malicious glee. Its challenging character is most impressive.

“Aquiliea“ – competition in ancient times
Strategically planned gladiator fights
Fight and bargain for fame and honor: “Aquileia“, named after a city in ancient times, is a meeting place for famous gladiators. Here they fight out their bat-tles, have chariot races and increase their prosperity thanks to lucrative handi-crafts. With the riches thus acquired the gladiators can then purchase building sites to erect grand villas.
This is a worker placement game. According to this logic the players decide at the beginning of each new round which field of action they wish to become involved in: in the market, in the arena, on the race course or in the business district. Here the players take part in exciting dicing duels, tricky auctioning competitions and strategic skirmishes in which luck and tactics cleverly man-age to maintain the balance.
“Aquileia“ is a richly equipped game with plenty of playing material from the group of Italian authors CIELO D’ORO – a successful combination of strategy and dice-rolling luck.

“Fuchs & Fertig“ – a card memory game
Bigger, smaller or the same size
It’s a question of quick identification and correct judgment in “Fuchs & Fertig“, a fast-paced card memory game for two to five players six and up. Seven an-imal species from indigenous forests compete for places at the party: ant, snail, frog, hedgehog, fox, deer and bear – who is bigger, smaller or the same size as the leader of the pack. The game is played at a cracking pace with twelve animal cards that each player holds in their hand so that even they can’t see the animal portrayed on the front of the card. The player whose turn it is predicts whether the next animal they turn over will be bigger or smaller than the last card turned over. If they are right then they can have another turn. The player can also voluntarily forego another turn to protect their cards. The winner is the first person to get rid of all their cards.

“Wollmilchsau“ – a reaction game
Zoch has once again lived up to its name of a beastly good games publisher: six amusingly illustrated animals are the main actors in “Wollmilchsau“, a cheeky reaction game with cards for up to six players of eight and up.
Several cards are placed face up showing one of a total of six animals – pig, dog, cat, sheep, cow and mouse. A dice with the appropriate card motifs indi-cates the animal we are looking for. The first player to name the four-legged animal to be seen on the top of the dice correctly is awarded a playing card. The player who names an animal which is nowhere to be seen and is not the first card in the pile nor was it called out in the previous round is also rewarded. Anyone who makes a “false“ call loses one of their previously won cards. When the last card has been taken, the game ends. Now each player puts his safe and his unsecured cards together and adds them up. The player with the most cards wins.
