Two new games from the Munich game publisher Zoch are nominated for prestigious awards: „Suleika“ and „Didi Dotter“.

“Suleika“, an oriental-style stacking and laying game with colorful carpets for two to four players 8 years and up, is nominated for the “Game of the Year 2008“. “Didi Dotter“, a fast-paced scramble for egg halves for children of five years and up is nominated for the ”Children’s Game of the Year 2008“. The Game of the Year jury, which will award this world-famous prize for the thirtieth time on June 30 in Berlin, selected five games in each category from the wide range of new releases. The turbulent card game “Alles Tomate“ was placed on the list of recommended children’s games.

It is not the first time that the Munich game publisher Zoch will be present when the prestigious cultural prize is awarded: “Niagara“ won the critics’ prize of Game of the Year 2005 and ”Villa Paletti“ 2002. “Dicke Luft in der Gruft“ was nominated for Game of the Year 2004 and “Zapp Zerapp“ 2001. In children’s games “Los Mampfos“ was “nominated for the Children’s Game of the Year 2006“ two years ago, and in 1998 the ”special prize of Children’s Game of the Year went to ”Zicke Zacke Hühnerkacke“. In 1997 “Aztec“ was awarded the special prize “beautifull game“. The game publisher was launched in 1987 with the classic “Bausack“, which was on the jury’s selection list for Game of the Year a year later, exactly 20 years ago.

“Suleika” – a shrewd game of laying and stacking

“Suleika“ carries you off to a world of bazaars and storytellers. The game is shaped by a whole lot of colorfully woven carpets, laid next to or stacked on top of each other. Each player tries to spread their carpets out skillfully to create as large as possible areas of their own color. If the vizier Omar lands on foreign carpets, he has to pay the owner stand rental. So tacticians are called for, to earn well on the one hand, when Omar comes to visit and to let as many carpets as possible disappear under their own, on the other. It is important to consider carefully before each move which way Omar will move. What counts at the end of the game are visible carpets and piles of money.
The entertaining and at the same time realistic carpet trade by Dominique Ehrhard carries young and old of 8 years and up away into a new dimension of  laying games with an oriental  fair. The attractive wooden figure Omar, the little material “Berbers“, wooden coins and a large wooden dice turn this tactical game into a haptic pleasure. (for 2 to 4 players, 8 years and up, 32,00 Euro)

“Didi Dotter” – things move quickly with plenty of action

My egg, your egg and egg yolk – in “Didi Dotter“ everything revolves around the soft centre of the egg. Things move quickly with plenty of action. 24 egg halves are placed face down in the centre of the table. Whoever finds the matching other half of their egg can place the complete egg in their egg carton. This calls for quick decisions, because you can also collect your opponent’s eggs. Good reactions and ability to concentrate are called for if you are to win the search with a well-filled egg carton.
The loving illustrations by Doris Matthäus and the unusual and functional game materials make this egg hunt an exciting and fun game for young and old birds of prey. (2 to 4 players, 5 years and up, 32 Euro)
