Die Patin

Die Patin turns Beasty Town into a sharp contest of influence, where 2-5 players fight for control of neighbourhoods, gullies and shady back rooms over 5 rounds. The board sets the stage for a tense strategy game in which each move changes the balance of power, whether a clan spreads into a new district or blocks an opponent at a key point on the map. The city board is surrounded by a substantial set of tactile components: 20 wooden figures, 190 wooden cubes, 75 wooden sticks, 111 tiles and 15 cards. Players place rats around the gullies to seize surrounding areas, while the boss and 3 henchmen push local businesses toward more profitable back-room dealings. Five missions shape the contest across the game, so success depends on more than simple expansion. Control of the most rat-filled drains, the broadest backroom network and the strongest haul all feed into the final score. Designed by Pim Thunborg and illustrated by Alexander Jung, the game combines clear strategic pressure with a playful crime-parody setting. A session runs at about 30 minutes per player, which gives the shifting board state time to develop as alliances tighten and rival plans collide. Around a living-room table, the mix of wooden pieces, cards and tiles creates a focused game night rhythm built on planning, placement and timely interference.
